RETROFIT THE ALUMINIUM/STEEL/STONE-FACADE at UN House

LEH took on the task of retrofitting the façade of the UN House in Beirut, transforming it into a fortified, blast-resistant structure. Our team focused on installing specialized fabrics, batten bars, and reinforcement to upgrade the building’s defenses.

The project covered an approximate area of 1,500 m² of the façade, which underwent a complete renovation and strengthening. We also reinforced 425 m² of heavy metallic materials for the cafeteria’s façade and wrapped 180 m² of the building’s slab with fiber to enhance its blast absorption capabilities.

One of the primary challenges of this project was introducing new materials and specifications to the Lebanese market, which required meeting stringent international standards. However, our team rose to the challenge, ensuring that the entire building remained operational throughout the project.

Following the project’s completion, the UN House façade became blast-resistant and proved its durability by withstanding the catastrophic 4th of August 2020 explosion at Beirut Port.

LEH takes immense pride in delivering such transformative projects that bolster the safety and resilience of vital structures.

Replacement of T-Walls at the periphery of the UN House:

LEH completed a project at the UN House in Beirut, where we removed the existing T-Walls around the building’s periphery and replaced them with precast fair-faced anti-blast concrete T-Walls.

With extreme precision, we cast the elements in our cutting-edge prefab casting area and successfully transported them to the site. Our expert team also installed high-security sliding or hinged gates, crash barriers, and painted the entire area to ensure a sleek and professional finish.

The main challenge of this project was maintaining the security of the UN House premises throughout the work, which required a high level of coordination with the Security team at ESCWA and a heightened sense of alert.

We overcame these challenges and delivered exceptional results, providing the UN House with the necessary security measures to protect against any potential threats.
